Your grapes today are just gorgeous, Brian, I love how the top grape recedes into the dark and how the specular highlight stands out. Do you set up a shadow box to make the light so dramatic? And did you paint the plywood base white specifically to bounce light up into your subject? I like the detail of the edge of plywood in the foreground, too, adds a contemporary edge to such a classic subject.
Excellent painting, Brian. Each grape is perfectly rendered, and your lighting is nice and dramatic.
Brian,
Beautiful painting, no wonder it's sold already. The grapes are semi-transparent - that comes across really well. Lovely work!
Thanks everyone, this is a 'thank you' painting for our realtor who did such a great job representing us. I didn't use a shadow box for this one, just pointed the light away a bit. The challenge is to seperate the light on the subject and the light on the palette/painting. The board is a primed chunk of wood that I had hanging around incase I wanted to practice pinstripping. While I was painting I kept up the mantra 'Drawing, value, color, edges.'
Brian
